Bitumen paint — reference specifications
- Reference product
- Crommelin BLACKSEAL HEAVY DUTY Bitumen Waterproofing Membrane, 15 L
- Pack sizes
- 1 L, 4 L and 15 L pails; pictured pack is 15 L.
- Preparation by use
- For bitumen paint, dilute 50:50 with water. As waterproofing membrane, stir and apply undiluted.
- Substrates
- Concrete/masonry, terracotta, cement sheet, aluminium/steel, timber posts and plywood; clean, dry and sound.
- Exposure limits
- Below ground or otherwise protected from UV. Not suitable for painting, tiling or overcoating.
- Application conditions
- Recommended 10–35°C; maximum 85% RH during application and initial cure.
- Membrane-mode coverage
- Undiluted membrane: minimum 2 coats at 1.5 m²/L per coat; 15 L gives approximately 11.25 m² finished coverage. This is not a diluted-paint coverage claim.
- Membrane recoat and cure
- Recoat when touch dry/black, approximately 2–4 hours. Dry backfill after at least 72 hours; full cure 7 days. Keep dry until fully cured.
Bitumen-paint dilution and undiluted waterproofing-membrane use are different applications. The listed coverage and cure values are explicitly for membrane mode; follow the selected use in the current technical sheet.
